THREE-STOREY SCHOOL BUILDING FOR CALBAYOG CITY SPED CENTER STARTS
A three-storey (nine-classroom) school building will soon rise at Calbayog City Special Education (SpEd) Center with an allocation of Php31.71 million from the Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF) for FY 2023.

The school building is a modified standard structure featuring a hand washing area, a ramp and toilet for the Persons With Disability (PWDs). The building will also have two additional regular toilets on each floor and two (2) units of 1,500-gallon stainless steel overhead tank
“More rooms for SpEd Center will make the school a more conducive learning center, especially for children with special needs like my daughter who is deaf-and-mute,” says one parent of a learner.

Another parent said that “the efforts of the government to provide learning facilities for differently-abled children shows that no one is left out in terms of providing education opportunities.”

“Gone are the days when children with special needs are left uneducated for lack of learning facilities and opportunities. It will now be up for us, parents, to see to it that our children with special needs be attended to by bringing them to school and assist them in their education so they may be useful citizens in their own right,” says one father of a polio victim.

SpEd Center are a learning haven for both mentally gifted and the differently-abled individuals including the blind, mute, and deaf as well as the physically-handicapped learners from Kindergarten to Grade VI.

District Engineer Raulito Yangzon of DPWH-Samar First District said that the project is one of the school buildings under the BEFF program fund in Samar's First District.
The additional school building will be an added venue for students with special needs. It will increase the number of enrollees and raise graduation rates.(CJ/ggp/JMM)
