TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development will undertake rehabilitation in all of the 17 Yolanda permanent housing villages in the city.

DHSUD regional director Michael Victor Tezon said his agency signed a memorandum of agreement with the National Housing Authority and the city government for the conduct of the rehabilitation of the 17 housing subdivisions.

Tezon said the city government has submitted proposed rehabilitation projects that were identified by the 17 homeowners' associations that NHA formed in these Yolanda resettlement communities.

He said the proposals vary from construction and declogging of drainage systems, road construction to replace the existing dilapidated roads, and rehabilitation of defective housing units.

"Each of the 17 HOA submitted a rehabilitation proposal based on the needs of their respective community," Tezon said.

He said DHSUD has earmarked funds for the rehabilitation projects but the actual budget remains to be set since the actual works still keeps on changing especially that more problems surfaced and were only identified at the onset of the rainy season.

"The Tacloban city government is still in the process of choosing the contractors that will undertake the construction," Tezon said.

"Once the plan starts, the construction will be in full swing until the projects are completed," he added.

Earlier, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. criticized the previous administration for its failure to implement rehabilitation projects for the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda.(CJ/jmm/ER)
