Barangay Officials and volunteers in Barangay Matobato packed 363 food packs from the funds provided by Senator Risa Hontiveros.
CALBAYOG CITY – Elderlies and families under a 14-day home isolation in Barangay Matobato and 3 quarantine facilities situated in the downtown area of the city were made recipients of assistance sent by Senators Risa Hontiveros and Francisco “Kiko” Pangilinan. The funds were generated thru the initiatives of Ms. Jover Laurio.
“I am just happy to be of help to my fellow-Samarnons while I am able to get the support of those who believe in my endeavors,” Ms. Laurio told Calbayog Journal in reaction to a message thanking her for the help she provides.
Ms. Laurio’s initiatives stemmed from the efforts of Ms. Aimee Adalla in extending help to her fellow residents of the Barangay at a time when 25 households were placed under lockdown restrictions in adherence to COVID-19 quarantine protocols.
“Right after I read of the lockdown of the 25 households and saw pictures of Aimees efforts to generate sources for assistance to the families, I got in touch with her and asked how I may be of help,” Ms. Laurio said.
“Luckily, I got the support of Senator Risa and Senator Kiko that kept the ball rolling for Barangay Matobato and another concern we wanted to address that is the needs of our quarantine facilities in the downtown area of the city,” Ms. Laurio further informed.
The initiatives were able to raise two sets of funds – one for food packs and the other for the purchase of items for quarantine facilities.
