Tacloban City – The Supreme Court ordered the reinstatement of a mayoral candidate in Leyte who was earlier declared a nuisance candidate by the Commission on Elections.
In an en banc resolution, the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order preventing the Comelec from implementing its resolution declaring Mary Dominique A. Oñate a nuisance candidate.

In an en banc resolution, the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order preventing the Comelec from implementing its resolution declaring Mary Dominique A. Oñate a nuisance candidate.
Oñate, who is more known by her nickname DM, is running for mayor in Palompon town against Myra Georgina L. Arevalo.
In the May 2022 election, Arevalo lost to Oñate’s father for the mayoral post. The Supreme Court also ordered the Comelec and Arevalo, who filed the petition to declare DM as a nuisance candidate, to comment on Oñate’s petition within 10 days from receipt of notice.
Aside from Oñate, the Supreme Court also issued TRO preventing Comelec delisting as candidates Marie Grace R. David who is running for Vice-Mayor of Limay, Bataan and Aldrin B. Sta. Ana who is running for mayor in Bocaue, Bulacan.(CJ/jmm/ER)
