Samar Provincial Hospital (SPH) received recognition of having garnered a three-star rating as a Green and Safe Facilitiy for attaining above-average practice.
SPH is one of only 7 hospitals in Eastern Visayas to have been conferred of the recognition having complied with the standards of several key areas, namely (1) Performance Governance, (2) Energy Efficiency, (3) Water Efficiency, Sanitation and Hygiene, (4) Health Care Waste Management, (5) Environmentally Resilient Health Facility, (6) Material Sustainability (6) Site Sustainability, and (7) Indoor Environmental Quality.
The recognition was conferred by the Department of Health Regional Office (DOH RO 8) during the Hospital Summit held at Summit Hotel, Tacloban City on October 24, 2024

SPH Chief of Hospital Dr. Jonathan Gabriel Paquit, in accepting the award, expressed gratitude to Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan, Cong. Stephen James Tan (first district) and Cong. Reynolds Michael Tan (second district) for the support that the hospital receives in the pursuit of its mandates in the service of Samarnons.
“Achieving this milestone is no easy feat. . .this success is not just a win for SPH, but for all of Samar,” the SPH Chief said.
SPH Green Viability Focal Person Mr. Albert Arcales was also present to receive the recognition.

The three-star rating under the Green Viability Assessment System is indicative of SPH’s above-average standards in implementing environmentally responsible healthcare practices. Health Institutions implementing effective measures to reduce carbon footprints are honored by the Green and Safe Facility Awards.
The Green and Safe Health Facilities Manual was introduced by the Department of Health in 2021. Aimed at minimizing the health sector’s carbon footprint while ensuring the delivery of quality care and safety to the community, the program is part of the nations commitment to addressing climate change.(CJ/JMM)
