CALBAYOG CITY – A riding-in-tandem fired a shot after grabbing a bag from the Barangay Treasurer of Capoocan here early evening of July 20, 2023. The incident happened along Old road, Purok #3 of the said Barangay.
The victim, identified as Barangay Treasurer Erecita De Leon, known to family and friends as “Rissy” is 59 years old, resident of Purok 5. She was walking along the Old (national) Road, in the vicinity of Purok 3 (of the barangay), when a riding-in-tandem suddenly appeared, grabbed the victim’s bag and with the use of a handgun fired at her.
The impact of the bullet, from a still undetermined calibre of firearm, rendered the victim to lose her balance. She fell to the concrete pavement of the road.
The victim, identified as Barangay Treasurer Erecita De Leon, known to family and friends as “Rissy” is 59 years old, resident of Purok 5. By standers say that the victim was quick to get up and call for a ride. She was bleeding but was heard telling the motorcab driver to bring her to the nearest hospital. Save for the driver, the victim was without company. An earing, that may belong to the victim was seen in the area where she fell.
The bag, according to the Barangay Treasurer contained an amount which represents payroll money for the employees of the LGU Barangay.
As of this posting, however, there is no clear statement as to the amount of cash contained in the bag. Earlier reports say that the amount is Php70,000. Another source say the bag contains Php90,000. Both sources, however, confirmed that the bag contains payroll money of LGU Barangay Capoocan.
Meanwhile, Barangay Treasurer De Leon is still at the hospital. The bullet fired at her grazed the left side of her face. She is still under observation.
The police is still in the process of investigation for the possible identification of the suspects.
Reports say that the tandem was driving a red motorbicycle. The driver was wearing a black sweat shirt over dark-colored long pants while the backrider who fired at the victim was wearing yellow shirt and dark colored short pants.(CJ/JMM)
