PSA LOOKS INTO HOUSEHOLD ENERGY USE
TACLOBAN CITY – Amid the energy shortage in the country that resulted in rotational brownouts nationwide, the Philippine Statistics Authority will look into the energy utilization in household's levels and identify patterns of energy use.

PSA Eastern Visayas regional director Wilma Perante said the agency will conduct a survey in different households to gather information on fuel utilization, supply systems, pattern of energy use, and other indicators that will be useful in assessing the current energy profile of different households and communities in the country.

"These energy statistics will be used to assess the current energy scenario in the Philippines. It will be utilized by both government and non-government agencies, as well as the academe, for in-depth research and studies," Perante said.
Perante said the 2023 Household Energy Consumption Survey (HECS) will be conducted 17 June to 19 July 2024 that will gather 2,720 sample households in Eastern Visayas. The survey is in collaboration with the Department of Energy.

"These will serve as inputs and bases for the formulation of policies and programs concerning energy-related social issues, for assessing energy targets, and to identify the relevant parameters that affect energy consumption of households and the industry sectors," Perante said.

Perante added that PSA will specifically look into the sources of energy consumption; information on the fuel/energy mix of the household sector based on its energy consumption; most energy-consuming and energy-efficient appliances and equipment used; and information on cooking fuel switching.

She said that the survey will also identify the current energy efficiency and conservation techniques; awareness and attitude on major energy issues and programs in the energy sector; and information on the energy use of vehicles for transportation.

Perante said the reference period for most of the data items to be collected is from December 2023 to May 2024.(CJ/jmm/ER)
