SELLING of pork meat and other pork meat products continues to be PROHIBITED in the Municipality of Calbiga, Samar as African Swine Fever (ASF) continue to spread with recorded increase in death of hogs.

The “pork holiday” in the municipality is extended until August 31, 2024 with the issuance of Executive Order No. 27, signed by town mayor, Red Nacario, dated August 16, 2024 following an earlier order (EO #25) that took effect in August 01-16.

Records from the town’s Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) tells that the ASF virus had spread to about 17 barangays already. Number of hogs died is recorded at 715 from 89 hog raisers and pigpen owners.
The rise in numbers called for extension to ban pork and pork products within the municipality while the town’s slaughter House will need to go through extensive disinfection. Repairs in the holding area will also be implemented.

Extension of the “pork holiday” will prevent further spread of the ASF virus. Imposition of No Inter-Barangaay Movement of Pigs will also avoid further damage in the local hog industry within the municipality.(CJ/JMM)
