P111 M WORTH OF SHABU INTERCEPTED IN CATBALOGAN CITY

Illegal drugs (suspected shabu) with an estimated value of P111.186,800.00 was intercepted by authorities along Barangay New Mahayag, Catbalogan City midmorning of April 16, 2025.

The prohibited drugs, weighing 16.35 kilograms contained in 15 pack was found loaded inside an Isuzu white Crosswind car, bearing plate number YBH 931.

Initial reports say that the PNP-Highway Patrol group conducting an anti-carnapping operations in the area flagged the car down upon noting that the fog lights of the vehicle was broken.

The driver, identified in reports as Alias Toper, 41 years old and with address at Barangay Lote, Naga City, Province of Cebu was driving alone and without company inside the vehicle. He has driven all the way from Tagaytay and was on his way to Cebu when he was stopped by the authorities.

On plain-view inspection, the sight of familiar several packages of green tea with chinese literature written on its cover inside the vehicle and the display of uneasiness by the driver draw suspicions that prompted the HPG team to call PNP units, including K9 Teams for a thorough inspection of the vehicle and its load.

Coordination for inspection and inventory was immediately conducted upon confirmation that the packages contained white substance suspected to be shabu.

Personnel from CGS Western Samar-Coast Guard Sub-Station Calbayog, Coast Guard Intelligence Group-EV, Coast Guard K9EOD-EV and Coast Guard Team Calbayog with CG Working Dog LORIE detected the contents of the 15 packages.

PNP Regional Director 8, PBGen Jay Cumigad supervised the examination of the vehicle and itemization of the items loaded therein. PNP Samar Provincial Director PCol Antonietto Eric Mendoza was also present during the invetory. Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) assisted in the procedures.

The following items were found inside the vehicle:
1.Fifteen (15) packs (in transparent plastic bags) containing white cystalline substance suspected to be shabu;
2. Ten (10) pieces brown wrapper paper;
3. One (1) roll of aluminum tin foil;
4. One (1) black back pack;
5. One (1) piece refined Chinese Tea packaging;
6. Two (2) pieces plastic disposable lighter;
7. One (1) piece black leatherette wallet;
8. One (1) piece National ID Card;
9. One (1) Unit Isuzu Crosswind color white;
10. Several keys;
11. Scissors color red/black; and
11. Two (2) rolls of packaging tape

Also present during the inventory were barangay officials, a media practitioner, and a representative from the National Prosecution Service (NPS)

Meanwhile, the driver who is now under police custody awaits filing of charges against him for violations of the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165) while the contents of the 15 packages will still have to undergo forensic examinations.(CJ/JMM)
