ONE DEAD, TWO ARRESTED IN DRUGBUST OPERATIONS

A DRUG BUST operations targeting 3 high value individuals claimed the life of 1 and arrested 2 others early evening of April 12, 2025 in Barangay Balud, Calbayog City.

Killed in the operations is Venisse Salazar, of legal age and a resident of the area. Arrested were Chucky Jose Baltazar and Ace Vincent Francisco, both of legal age and residents of Barangay East Awang, this city.

“Two suspects were arrested on site while the other fled by jumping from a second-floor window and attempted escaped across rooftops,” police reports say.

Police report further said that “during the ensuing pursuit, Salazar fired at the operatives using a caliber .38 revolver” prompting “the operatives to return fire hitting the suspect in various parts of his body.”

At 7:45 PM of even date Salazar was pronounced dead-on-arrival by the attending physician at the hospital where he was immediately brought by CDRRMO personnel.

The marking and inventory of evidences was made in the presence of Barangay Officials and media representative.

Five (5) sachets of suspected shabu weighing approximately 4 grams with an estimated street value of Php27,000.00 was seized from suspect Baltazar.

Recovered from the crime scene during the process conducted by SOCO were one (1) caliber .38 revolver without serial number of trademark; four (4) fired cartridge cases (caliber .38); two (2) live ammunitions (caliber .38) and one (1) fired cartridge case of 5.56 mm.

Body search on the cadaver of Salazar conducted at the Calbayog District Hospital yielded the Php500-bill marked buy-bust money and cash amount of Php10,750.

Remains of Salazar was transferred to Bornec Funeral Services for paraffin testing and further examination.

Two arrested suspects were brought to Calbayog PNP headquarters for further investigation and confinement at the lock-up cell while cases to be filed against them are under process.

As part of the investigation process, Gunpowder Residue (GPR) Examination of the firearms used by operatives during the engagement have been requested.(CJ/JMM)
