CALBAYOG CITY - Personnel from the Phil. Drug Enforcement Agency of PDEA Calbayog Field office has arrested Dr. Evaristo Tamonan Y Rosales, also known as "Baret," a dentist, during a buy bust operation in his home at Purok 2 Barangay West Awang, this city, at 9:30 in the evening of March 4.
Seized from Tamonan were 11 pieces of medium heat-sealed plastic sachet all containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, several pieces of empty transparent plastic sachet , a roll of aluminum foil and several pieces of aluminum strips, a digital weighing scale, other shabu paraphernalia, Php 2,570 .00 in cash of different denominations, a black box and the Php 500.00 marked money used in the buy-bust operation.

PDEA Team leader Floro Katangkatang, Jr. placed the volume of the drugs seized from Tamonan as between 40 to 45 grams, with an estimated street value of four hundred thousand pesos (PhP400,000.00).
In 2015, Tamonan, a dentist formerly connected with the City Health office, was arrested from his home when authorities implementing a search warrant found a cache of alleged shabu in his bedroom. He was charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act or Republic Act 9165 and subsequently detained, but was released after his case was dismissed by Regional trial Court Branch 32 Judge Noli Penaflor.
Tamonan was immediately turned-over to the PNP Calbayog Station lock-up cell and will undergo Inquest proceedings for Violation of RA 9165 tomorrow, March 6, 2017 at the City Prosecutor’s Office. (CJ/ELEEN S. LIM)
