Sto. Nino, Samar - PhP7 M has been released to the local government unit of the Municipality of Sto. Nino in partial amount from the Php15M project grant under the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) Program of the national government.
In an interview with Municipal Mayor Lilia Conejos, it was learned that the Municipality has qualified for the implementation of the BUB project by local administration of the LGU after having been conferred DILG's "Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping" (SGFH) for its financial performance in calendar year 2014. The SGFH is the municipality's third since 2012. The Mayor further informed that the national government has required an equity in the amount of Php1M from the LGU for the Php15M project grant which equity is contained in the LGU's CY 2015 Annual Budget.
BUB Program addresses poverty alleviation thereby allowing expenditures for projects, services and activities under the Local Poverty Reduction Plan (LPRAP) of a local government unit. "With the municipality being basically an agri-fishing community, farm-to-market roads are deemed vital infrastructure in the enhancement of the agricultural and fishing activities of the constituents, particularly in bringing their produce to the market," the Mayor elaborated.
The Php7M partial release will be allotted for the partial concreting of the 2.3 km farm-to-market road that stretched thru five barangays in the Municipality thereby benefiting farmers and fisherfolks in Barangays Ilo, Basud, Takot, Buenavista and Cabunga-an.
This road concreting project is now in the process of implementation.
