Catbalogan City listed the most number of 446 cases as of August 10, 2024. This number attributes to 22% of the total number of cases in the entire provinces.

As of morbidity week 33 (August 11-17), Calbayog has 422 cases with 2 deaths. Paranas has recorded 316 cases and Gandara 206 (as of August 10, 2024). All 4 of local governments has declared an outbreak thus placing respective areas under a state of calamity.

Meanwhile, the Samar Provincial Health Office informs that the dengue virus is transmitted by a day-biting mosquito called “Aedes aegypti “ and “Aedes albopictus.” These mosquitoes lay eggs in clear and stagnant water found in flower vases, cans, rain barrels, old rubber tires, etc. The adult mosquitoes rest in dark places of the house.

To mitigate, control and eliminate dengue infection, the public is enjoined to practice the 5S in the fight against dengue.
1. Search and destroy dengue breeding places like containers with stagnant water;
2. Self-protection measures such as use of mosquito repellant lotions;
3. Seek early consultation when symptoms are present;
4. Support fogging activities;
5. Sustain hydration.
