CALBAYOG CITY – The Acceptance Test for the FREE use and services of the Internet Public Wifi launched in the city on September 18, 2016 was successful. The service is a mandate implemented under the Department of Information and Communications Technology established during the term of President Noynoy Aquino.
All utilities prescribed in the acceptance criteria including the start of the wifi services right from the Point of Presence or POP was tested under the supervision of Program Manager, Engr. Bien Maniego of Abratique and Associates Philippines, Inc., (A & A) service contractor. POP is located at the previous Telecommunications Office Building that will now be the Field Operations Office in Calbayog City for Visayas Cluster 2.
The test-run for this wifi services, including the speed test and technical specification of the equipment installed for the operation of the wifi was successful. A user will enjoy fifty megabytes (50mb) and thru a registered account, the user will be accommodated of at least 100mb to 200mb of internet services every day.

Meanwhile, Engr. Eleazar Badrina, Provincial Field Team Leader of DICT-Samar Office, informed that thirty-two (32) free public wifi areas will be installed in Calbayog City covering all public schools, parks, plazas, airport and rural health centers.
Engr. Badrina added that DICT is scheduled for an audience with Mayor Ronald P. Aquino within the week regarding the mechanics and signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for the installation and operation of the herein referred free public wifi services in the city. (cj/jmm/ELEEN LIM)
