Calbayog City – Three fishermen were safely brought to port after being rescued by a passenger motorboat along Calbayog seas early morning of August 05, 2023.
The fishermen were seen holding on to their capsized motor banca (at around 5:25 AM) along the seas of Calbayog.
Immediately, the Boat Captain of M/B Justine Joy, in the person of Tito Villa, decided to conduct rescue operations to save the fishermen and bring them to port safely.
M/B Justine Joy is a passenger motorboat that plies the route Almagro-Calbayog and vice versa.
“The Boat Captain informed that M/B Justine Joy safely arrived Calbayog port with their passengers from Almagro and the rescued fishermen at 7:30 in the morning of the same day,” Coast Guard SubStation Commander PO2 Cuthbert C. Porlares said.

The Coast Guard SubStation in Calbayog City was not informed of the incident. The conducted investigation upon seeing the video clip posted.
“We are not informed of the incident nor were the rescued fishermen turned over to our office for recording and assessment,” Porlares said.
“Our investigation started only when we saw the post that we searched for the passenger motorboat at the port area,” added Porlares.
According to Boat Captain Villas, the fishermen hurriedly left the port because they have to ask help for the retrieval of the motorized banca left at sea.
Porlares said that his Office will conduct further investigation to be able to identify the rescued fishermen and find out if the banca has been retrieved.
The Officers of the Coast Guard SubStation in Calbayog assures that their team will always be ready and available to serve.
“We call on our seafarers and the public to please do not hesitate to call us anytime of day for assistance or any help that we can provide within our means,” Porlares assured. (CJ/JMM)
