Over 100 children and about a hundred households in a rural village were recipients of the first Gift/Care Packs Giving and Food Sharing activity of Eastern Visayas Media Without Borders (EVMWB). The activity is part and partial under the Community Outreach Program which is one of the core community work of the media organization.
The resources were raised from the initiatives of individual or group of officers and members from various regular benefactors, EVMWB lit up the faces of children and their parents in Barangay Bag-otan (a village accessible via a municipal road located some 8 kilometers from the government seat) of the Municipality of Matuguinao, Samar. The activity was held on January 18, 2025.
Regular and associate members of the media organization travelling from as far as the cities of Ormoc, Tacloban, Calbayog and Catbalogan supported the activity with their presence and active participation in resource initiative, entertainment and distribution of gifts and prizes to winners of games

Children were gifted with toys, slippers, bags, clothing, and goodies. Parents, representing their households/families received care packages containing rice, noodles, canned goods, and beverage preparations. All attendees were served with a cup of arroz caldo and egg in line with the programs food sharing initiatives.
Punong Barangay Antonio Diaz expressed his thanks and appreciation to EVMWB for considering the village he leads as recipient of its outreach services.
“We are thankful that a media organization has identified our barangay to be recipient of its outreach program and provide gifts that some of our families cannot afford to buy for our children,” Diaz said.

A grandmother who is taking care of her grandson was teary-eyed in expressing her thanks and appreciation that her grandson, a ten-year old girl received a doll she most wanted for Christmas but which her parents cannot afford.
EVMWB President Meriam Desacada expressed her thanks for the trust and participation of the parents by allowing their children to join and actively engage in the activity. She also thanked the Barangay Officials and the soldiers of the 19th Infantry Battalion for the support and assistance in delivering the activity.(CJ/JMM)
