CALBAYOG CITY – A 39-year-old private citizen fell prey to a shooting incident that happened shortly before eight o’clock in the morning of August 24, 2023 along the city’s diversion road, particularly in the vicinity of Purok 1, Barangay Pagbalican.

A company supervisor, identified as Roy Cleofas D. Saplad was instantly killed after having been fired upon by (still) unidentified suspects.

“Roy left his house in Purok 4, Barangay Payahan, Calbayog City and was on his way to work in Barangay Amampacang, Tinambacan District, this city,” sources say.

Three gunmen were seen who, in band, fired staccato of shots aimed at the victim, hitting him in several parts of his body. The suspects left the victim dead on the spot.

On board a red car, the (still) unidentified suspects fled the crime scene and was seen heading towards the north.

Roy is the eldest among 4 siblings. His tragic death orphaned 3 siblings, two children and his wife who cry for justice to his death believing that “he was brutally killed by heartless individuals.”

This incident is one of the series of killings in the month of August, 2023 in Calbayog City. The list includes a barangay treasurer, a policeman, a college student, civilians, a farmer.

This series of unsolved killings in the city, citizens say, defeats the endeavors of the present administration to attract tourists under the banner of a “Coolbayog.”

The present situation, according to some comments in the initial posting for this incident, still befits the monicker for the city as “Killbayog” on account of a long list of unsolved shooting incidents since several years back.(CJ/JMM)
