DICT CONTINUES TO EXPAND FREE WIFI CONNECTIVITY IN EASTERN VISAYAS

Over a thousand sites in Eastern Visayas and 32 government agencies within the Government Center in Palo, Leyte are installed of free wifi connectivity, DICT says.

This number records a 43% increase in wifi app sites this year compared to that of the previous (year 2023) as reported by Engr. Dante P. Rosales, Officer-in-Charge of the Technical Operations of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Eastern Visays Regional Office during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas with PIA Regional Director Reyan Arinto.

DICT is serving a total of 1,048 free wifi sites in the region situated as follow: 456 in Northern Samar, 110 in Samar, 123 in Eastern Samar, 245 in Leyte, 42 in Southern Leyte and 72 sites in the island of Biliran.

While there are already 32 government agencies served of free wifi in the regional government center of Eastern Visayas, 60 other government offices will be provided of this connectivity in Tacloban City.

Geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) in the region are also in the priority list of DICT for the free wifi service installation.

The Free Public Internet Access Program of the DICT is aimed at providing access for education, opportunity to improve economy, provide proper information for health care and increased social networks.

The free public wifi services in isolated rural areas provides opportunities in interacting with other areas and be a part of the aggressive acceleration of the digital world.(CJ/jmm)
