PAMBUJAN, NORTHERN SAMAR - The beleaguered crew of a Chinese flag cargo vessel, Jin Ming 16, was rescued yesterday January 2, 2018 at about 12:30 in the afternoon along the coastal waters of Pambujan.
Said cargo vessel was manned by nine foreign nationals (1 Taiwanese, 6 Chinese, and 2 Hongkong Nationals) identified as Lai Yikui, Hans Febie, Xilong Sun, XuWeilong, Sai Cheong Ho, Wu Ning Jin, Chin Hsin Chuan, Xu Xi, and Ye Gui Jin.
Delving into circumstances surrounding the incident, authorities interviewed one of the crew in the person of Hans Ferbie
Ferbie conveyed that their vessel left China on December 12, 2017 for Chile to obtain certain goods. While on their way, their ship was battered by enormous waves that resulted in the rupture of its hull thereby sucking in saltwater. This ensued to the flooding of its compartments and caused its engine to conk out.

The ship was drifting towards the municipal waters of Pambujan when the Philippine Coast Guard received a distress call from them.
A composite team of Pambujan Municipal Police Station, Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company, Coast Guard Allen, Philippine Army, MDRRMO, Pambujan and Red Cross Northern Samar responded to the distress call and immediately conducted a rescue operation.
At around 7:00 o’clock in the evening of January 2, 2018 the crew were rescued and were already accomodated at the residence of the Municipal Mayor after going thru medical check-up at the municipal health center.
PO3 Bernie S Madrid of the Philippine Coast Guard-Northern Samar Station disclosed that half of the ship was already submerged in seawater and is tilting starboard. Only the upper half or second deck remains afloat but is slowly sinking as it keeps on drawing more water.
Meanwhile, PSSUPT FELIX A DILOY lauded the determinations of all police officers involved in the rescue of nine foreign nationals aboard the Chinese Flag Vessel Jin Ming 16.
