In May 2023, Manadong was in a group of photographers invited by the local government of the island municipality of Sto. Nino (in Samar Province) relative its implementation of the tourism promotions. After work, the group decided to camp in a beach in Barangay Elijan.
“We were night camping by the seashore after a day of fishing and beach bathing when, out of impulse, I took a photo of our camp of 4 tents using a DSLR camera I carry with me most of the time.”
This is how Joel Manadong tells about the history of his photo that earned him the recognition as one of the grand finalists.
“A week after storing the photos I gathered from that trip, I read about PAGCOR’s Photography Contest,” Manadong further informed.
From his files, Manadong recalls that there was only one photo that met the criteria and mechanics setforth in the contest. Deciding on only 1 photo, Manadong did not hesitate to submit his official entry to PAGCOR before the deadline.
Joel, as he is fondly called by family, friends and acquaintances, makes a living from his photography to support his family. With high hopes of a prolific future in the field, he shared that photography is a passion that has become his bread-and-butter.(CJ/JMM)
