“The declaration of the state of calamity will allow the use of the 30% Quick Response Fund (QRF) from this year’s calamity fund allocations of the city,” Mayor Raymund Uy said in a media conference.
The Mayor added that LGU Barangays can also utilize respective QRFs to acquire equipment and materials that will address the dengue situation thereby requiring the LGU-Barangays to continue with the clean-up drive and the “search and destroy” operations of mosquito breeding places.
“The City Health Office also set-up Oral Rehydration Centers (ORC) to cater laboratory tests for free to determine dengue cases in individuals,” City Health Officer Sylvia de Guzman informed.
“The ORCs will also admit individuals for observation, particularly those from the rural areas and those whose households do not have members who knows how to take care and monitor dengue patients. The ORC will immediately refer the patients to hospitals should warning signs arise,” Dr. De Guzman said.

Out of the city’s 157 barangays, 39 were monitored to have clustering of cases and 18 others were newly included in the list with dengue cases.
Dr. De Guzman said that the CHO is also conducting massive information drive and health promotions about dengue thereby correcting the misconceptions.
“Fever is the only visible symptom of dengue but warning signs manifest when fever subsides which is the time that an individual needs to be monitored extensively,” the City Health Officer emphasized.
Warning signs of dengue include: severe stomach pain, vomiting, difficulty breathing, blood (in nose, gums, vomits or stools), frequent vomiting, throwing up of blood or blood in poop (stool), nose bleeds or bleeding gums, extreme tiredness, restlessnes or irritability.(CJ/JMM)
